Miranda IM v0.7.8 Preview Release #1 Discussion

Miranda IM v0.7.8 Preview Release #1 is now available. This preview release is meant for TESTING PURPOSES ONLY. It is recommended that you backup your database before installing. The preview release cycle is meant to address any outstanding issues before any final release to the public. Any feedback you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Note: Do not overwrite your mirandaboot.ini file when upgrading over an existing installation. If you are unsure of how to do this, please use the installer.

Changes
Quote:
Enhancements:
- SSL library included to provide ssl support
- ICQ: Improved client detection
- Jabber: Enable StartTLS by default

Bugfixes:
- Safer port opening for incoming connections
- Language pack translations did not always translate correctly
- ICQ: Skinned protocol icon was sometimes incorrect
- MSN: Improved BBCode processing
Note #1: This build includes a new SSL library. It is important that we test this on as many systems and setups as possible. Your feedback on this is greatly appreciated.

Note #2: If you are using Jabber and the jabber.org server, please try testing with TLS enabled in the Jabber options. This server will be requiring this option in several more months so it's important that we test it out using the new SSL library.

Is the new SSL library a replacement for the Win32 OpenSSL package?

Yes. It is called winssl.dll and is put in the root miranda directory. It will be used instead of openssl unless you remove the dll.

This link gives me only a network timeout. Someone missed the change to SVN?

The closest I got after a brief view of SVN was:

Also, dbtool-readme.txt is missing from both the .exe and the .zip.
That was about MIM 0.7.7, but is still valid.

Or at least mention dbtool.exe in readme.txt.

About readme.txt:
Is it really that important to list the history down to version 0.1.1?
If 5.0 ("Unicode revolution") was the last mentioned version, that surely is enough IMHO.
Thats another reason why nobody reads. The real important info is at the end, but you have to scroll down for hours to get to that...

Then how about putting the history or change log into a different file?

It can be kept full, and wouldn't interfere with the readme itself.

Hi,

Since the version 0.7.8 I've the problem again that the MSN says me that my email address or Live ID were incorrect. But, when I log in with Windows Live Messenger I don't have the troubles.
And, in ICQ I get every time after log in the error message code 1460. I don't know about this...

Does any one can help me?

Thanks in advance.

Obviously, Miranda 0.7 uses the same protocol as MSN Messenger 7.5 not Windows Live Mesenger, thus you can login in one but not the other, until MS will fixes their servers. If you would like use the same protocol as Windows Live Messenger you need to use Miranda 0.8.
