If you have only 1 contact why not to use AIM to talk to it? AIM does support talking to ICQ contacts, sending/getting avatars & files, offline messages, etc. The only downside you have to rename locally icq number to contact name but that's it. I am using AIM to talk to all my ICQ contacts....

Contacts offline

Same problem here with all icq contact offline (I don't exactly when they started to be like that)
Everything else (on icq) is working fine. I can even talk and answer, I just never "see" them.

Any idea what I could try?

I considered that. It's probably what I'll do. Thanks.

Okay. I wish to violate the protocol. Not caring if miranda freezes, nor caring if the remote server disconnects me. I want to know whether not having someone on my list (despite him being online and having me on his list) is enough to make the file transfer request fail.

PS: if I can talk to this person and he can talk to me, does that mean we're talking using offline messaging, even though both of us are online?

Umm not Protocol as in "Procedure" Protocol is what each connection type (ICQ, AIM, MSN etc.) is called in miranda (and other im programs)
and to the P.S. yes, you are speaking to each other via ICQ's Offline messaging
