    Avatar History Plugin

Something I've always wanted, but was waiting for someone else to code :)

Driven to it by a very good friend threatening of switching away from Miranda because of the lack of this feature, and further more by this and this comment, I decided to give it a go.

It requires the Avatar Service plugin (which most people have anyway), because it simply uses it's events to tell when an avatar has changed.

The file system structure is the same as that of the original AutoLoadAvatars (look in 'Avatar History' in Miranda's folder).

    and, here it is:
    http://mattj.xmgfree.com/projects/avatarhist.dll
    http://mattj.xmgfree.com/projects/avatarhist0007.dll
    http://mattj.xmgfree.com/projects/avatarhist0007.zip

(yes, they are all the same version :P)

    Have fun :)

    Code:
    Changes
    ---
    0010:
     -File listing release
     -Changelog reorganised :P
Note: This version is the same as 0.0.0.7 released on the forum
    0007:
     -New avatar history dialog
     -Per-contact logging/popups
-Use default popup plugin colours (optional)
    0006:
-Changed popup text to 'user changed his/her avatar' by popular demand :P
-Made UI strings translatable (I hope)
    0005:
-Fixed Windows 98 issues, I hope
    0004:
     +Popups on avatar change
+Options page, and option to enable/disable auto-saving avatars
!Now uses local time, not UTC
!Smaller dll size (thanks for spotting it yb :) )
    0003:
     +Custom folder support

Well, it appears in the Plugins list, at least, if I add it while Miranda is running. But I won't actually test it until you add Custom Folders support. My Miranda folder is too clean to mess it up with (momentarily unwanted) avatars. ;-)

I need %profile_path%\%profile_name%\Avatars\History. Different profiles can use different contacts, no matter if it's a 9x system or an NT-based one. So separation by profile name is the best approach, something that the protocols don't do (yet, hopefully).

RIP ALA. Good luck and long live AvatarHistory!

Yeah... there is no user interface, but the new images are there. And it is good that seems to be compatible with existing avatar history already created by ALA.

The most important user interface IMHO would be the menuitem "show history". all the rest of ALA is not so important. Please dont plan any kind of re-writing/re-compressing images. always let them in original format
(ok... it is not so compatible. I see 2006-6-23 and my last record from ALA is 2006-06-03 - the leading zeros are missing).

Great news for the avatar history fans :)

Edit: Hehe... I am the first tester/reporter after Drugwash's refusal ;)

    Hehe, thanks y_b :)

Yeah, I thought about the leading zeros... I'll see what I can do, for the sake of 100% compatibility ;)

I'll work on the menu item then....

    Thanks :)

PS. Are you the person who downloaded it with wget? :P

Be sure that is me. I think wget is the best downloading program, especially for small files. One of the things I really like - it keaps the timestamps how they are shown by server.

I found how to add the leading zeros... done :)

I added a setting for people who organise their folders in funny ways... :) Set the setting AvatarHistory\UseProfName to 1, and restart.

I updated the link in the first post... (I give files different names, because often people have problems with server/ISP/proxy caches, etc.)

EDIT: The 'Drugwash' setting will only be until custom folders is implemented, it's just I don't know when that will be.

    EDIT2: I agree, wget is great :D

What exactly is the difference to ALA (AutoLoadAvatars)? Will there be more features and support? (atm filesize is bigger ;( )

ALA is buggy, outdated and crashes all the time.

So it's supposed to have the same functions?

That would have been a simple answer to the question... well, more OT: ALA is working fine with some (e.g. my) plugin configurations.
