Wikify Discussion

Here's a little plugin that implements Wikipedia features and partially adapts outgoing messages to the wiki standards.

Download page

Features
- unlimited, customizable wiki links
- templates
- convertion of "" quotation marks to „“/„” or »«/«», two minus dashes (--) to an en dash (–) or an em dash (—)
- indents (:/::/:::/ etc.) are replaced with three spaces
- tabulator character \t (non-wiki, but still useful)
- escape tag

These commands are not converted when preceded with <!>. All commands can be deactivated in the options. The plugin only modifies outgoing messages.

Version history
http://addons.miranda-im.org/details...iewlog&id=2611

ToDo
- fix msn/jabber compatibility (unicode support)
- add translate.txt

Comments, bug reports or feature requests are welcome!

So whats the intended featureset of this plugin? And, what does it strive to achieve through this?

it makes it easier to send a wiki link to an article to somebody because you don't need to browse and search by urself, copy the url etc.. and because of the fun of it, to be able to easily make brackets around a word and then getting linked to the wikipedia article.

tabs couldn't be typed easily in miranda before, so \t does the job. and to make a quick indent you can just write a colon and here u go (same as at wikipedia). the convertion of quotes is a matter of taste whether you like these more than the standard ones found on the keyboard (see it as a quotes-"skin"). these double quotes are usually used in wikipedian articles, so i implemented them too.

i had fun programming it, but this counts as a hidden, personal feature at most.. :)

So basically, you just type a wiki link (i.e. some words within a bracket for example)l, and when the user clicks it, it will be brought to the wiki article on wikipedia?

Anyway, not to sound unappreciative ofyour efforts, I asked as i was wondering if it could be of use to the new official miranda wiki...

yes, however what you see in the history then is the written http-link rather than the word you enclosed with brackets linking to wikipedia. i would have to write a history plugin where i had direct influence on how links are displayed, or at least implement a history-feature that would allow such formatting and also further wiki commands. not too sure if that would be worth the effort..

Would it be possible to customize the wikipedia-URL a little more? I would like to point all [[these words]] to my private webspace, instead to wikipedia. This is almost possible, but I can't find a way to remove the /wiki/-part of the link.

Damn, I just noticed that this plugin isn't working at all. All the changes in the message are shown correctly in my local window and in the history, but all contacts will get exactly what I typed!

This is in my history:

Code:
DerEineDa, 09.02.2006 21:16 :
Please show me what is shown in your window:
DerEineDa, 09.02.2006 21:16 :
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/link
test
lala »test«

Freeky, 09.02.2006 21:16 :
[[link]]
:test
\tlala "test"
As you can see: Wikify works in my outgoing message, but the incoming message at my contact is not "wikified"!

hi there, yeah i know about this problem, it occurs with miranda 0.4.0.0, but in 0.4.0.1 or greater it should work. unfortunately i really don't know the problem..
can you tell me what version do you have?

as for ur suggestion above, sounds like a good idea, i'll do that in a few days when i have more time :)

edit:

forgot: Thanks for integrating my request for the next version :)
