Disable in-chat notifications?

Loving this messenger although a few minor things bug me, but still thank you for the wonderful software.
On to my question:
Is there a way to disable the online/offline notifications on the chat window? ("XXXX is now Online (was Away)). Sometimes they fill the whole chat window.

The only other thing that's bothering me is the lack of an option to disable logging of messages. I installed a plugin that's supposed to do which it does but it also deletes messages in open chat windows.
