    ICQ Problem logging in

    Hi,

At first, thanks for the support you are providing ;)

I searched the forum if there is any mention of a PC behind a NAT network (i think this is my case) with connection problems, but I couldn't find anything except a proposed solution to disable the UPnP port mapping, which I did, restarted the application and it idn't help.

I am using miranda 0.8.11, but this problem was the same with the previous verions. Iam using the default ICQ plugin, which comes with the application (0.5.0.12 IcqOscarJ).

I am receiving the following error messages:

    Login failed for unknown reason.

    or

    Server unavailable.

I am using the server "login.icq.com" and the port set to "0".
I don't have anything else ticked except of "Send keep-alives" (this I tried also to disable). I also tried various combinations of ticking the "Secure .." options, but as I thought, it din't help. The password and login are correct (I logged in using meebo.com without problems).

If it helps, I am using the technology FLASH-OFDM (Fast Low-latency Access with Seamless Handoff - Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) from a company called Flarion for connecting to the internet. This is a modem from the Slovak T-Mobile branch. My "outside" IP is 195.91.79.120 and I am also behind a router.

One more thing - sometimes it works :)

If you have any tips, it would be great, I am battling with this a really long time now.

    Jokob

    DEFAULT settings for ICQ are:
    Login Server: login.icq.com
    Port: 5190

Don't fool around with settings if you don't know what they are for...

    Hi,

I changed it to the suggested settings:

Thank's for the advice, but that doesn't work either. I have the same settings on my hostel (adsl) and it works without problem.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. Does anyone have other ideas?

    Thanks in advance,
    jokob

Use only the first 8 characters of your password
    AND
    UNcheck "Secure Connection (SSL)"
    AND
    UNcheck "Secure (MD5) login".

    or

    Server unavailable.
Check your router (also "security" software you might be running) for any integrated IM Security features. Turn them off if possible.

Usually, NAT is a problem for file transfer only.
Check your Terms of Service: is IM allowed with your mobile connection?
In most cases it is NOT.

I also installed the classic ICQ client from www.icq.com and he works OK. I just don't like it, I like miranda :)

    Thanks for any other suggestions.

    Check icq.dll:
    You are NOT using 0.5.0.12!

    Please post a versioninfo.

When Miranda reports that the server is unavailable can you telnet to the same address and port from a command line, does that work or does it give the same kind of error ?

Can you post a network log of the connection attempt ? (check the log first for any usernames/passwords :) )

I am not sure, how to use telnet, I run the "telnet login.icq.com 5190" command in the command line and some smilies appeared :) :

After a while the following text appeared:

    "Connection to host lost".

Here is (I hope the correct) network log:

    Thanks in advance,
    jokob

ps: thanks for looking into this

If the 'smileys' appeared it means that telnet worked, it was able to connect to the server.

It looks as though the server is closing the connection, but i don't know why.

Can you post a message in the ICQ protocol thread and let Joe know about your problems, maybe he'll be able to read the log file.
