MSN Server Contact List

I have tried different messengers over time including Pidgin, Trillian, MSN and Yahoo.

I tend to like Pidgin, Trillian and Miranda.

I have found one core difference in Miranda.

It seems after a fresh install, completely wiped out the profile file etc - I enter my msn details - Miranda starts.

It then populates my contact list with email addresses which I do not recognize or which I have removed from my contacts. Do he same thing with other messengers these email addresses are not there.

Now its essentially the server list which Miranda is picking up but I dont know where from. I log into Hotmail and check my contact list, those email addresses do not exist.

So how is Miranda picking these email addresses up when other messengers do not?

A few of the email addresses are spammers I believe as I have never known or contacted such people. I remove them from the server list in the options of Miranda. I remove Miranda completely and re-install. Re input my msn details and the email addresses re-appear.

I cant get anything out of Hotmail, typically you cant contact them or they will never reply.

Oh no other messengers have them too but in the different parts of UI.

I have never seen it in Pidgin or Trillian, Miranda is the only one which has a different list for "server contacts"

And to be honest I do not care what Pidgin or Trillian does. They are available in WLM so they are available in Miranda.

For your information I have looked at the contacts in hotmail.

I wonder who else would know better than the MSN developer in Miranda, which is... borkra. ;-)

Well after 3 replies from Borkra - I guess I wont be told what exactly is the server list.
It must be a secret.

If there is another thread - you could point me to it.

As it is dont bother - waste of my time and effort in enquiring about a basic thing. Most forums work of the basis of helping people - and not coming back with replies in bits and pieces.

Server list is a storage of contacts on MSN server it consist of 6 independent lists.

• Members you subscribed to receive information about

• Members you allow to see your status/communicate with you

• members you do not allow to see your status/communicate with you

• Members who are subscribed to receive updates to your status

• Members who requested permission to receive updates to your status but you have not allowed or denied their request yet

• E-mail only contacts
