    Lost MSN Messages

    Hi

I am having an issue with Msn here. For couple days my friends were asking me if I got their messages and it seems like I do not get some of the messages. They were never delivered. Is this a bug with Msn protocol? Is there a way to fix this or make sure messages are not lost or lost? It is quite annoying and it happened more than couple people :(

    thanks

You need to enable delivery notification, then you will be notified when message delivery failed.
There are many legitimate reasons when message delivery does fail.

Delivery notification will notify me about the messages that others are trying to send me? I am not getting messages. You suggestion sounds like it would be for lost sent messages(from my client).

Well, if others cannot send you messages this is problem with other clients. They need to have delivery notification. It goes both ways. If other clients do not have delivery notification they would never know if their messages would be never delivered. And not all 3rd party clients have that.

Yeah I understand that but how is that supposed to help me out in this situation thou? Basically what you are saying is that messages can get lost and that is normal if they do have not enabled delivery notification? Is this a common problem? I am just curious because I might put an end to messenger based communication and go back to email since I also use it for my business.

    thanks

It's not a problem per say, but it's more likely to happen in MSN then other protocols due to internal complexity. You have to take care of this issue in the client. Official WLM will try to send message multiple times for 2-3 min and if it cannot it will give you an error message. What other 3rd party clients do, who knows.

Well it may not be a very common problem but I am suffering from it at the moment :)

I guess best solution is going back to email.

If things are critical, it always better to use email. One thing that email is a formal document admissible in courts and other places where formal confirmation needed, IM does not have such qualities.
