    Skype support without Skype running?

i know its a longshot but i thought i'd try anyway.
Any chance of someone coding the skype protocol for miranda?
the default client is so ugly and lanky, uses 20mb+ minimized,
while not even in a chat.

EDIT: i realize there were other threads, but they referred to the Skype protocol which required skype to be running. I meant a protocol that doesn't need skype running:)

audio and video chat has been a wanted feature for along time (for yahoo, msn icq AIM etc), but its just not feasible right now afaik. i imagine an audio plugin for general use would be the best thing, as it would let every protocol use it.

Yes. That's true and that's why Leecher implemented a plugin that interacts with the original client using the API.

But if you want voice chat, I read somewhere here yesterday that some guy is taking development of MirandaComm plugin. So there's still hope. We would be able to use it to chat with other Miranda users.

Not to mention Skype uses encrypted voice chats, which makes things worse.

    Skype support (just for chat)

I would love to see Skype support on Miranda,
not for talking, but just for instant messaging.

Personaly, I dont have a lot of people in my skype list so I don't want to be running skype all the time.
But Miranda IS running all the time so if it could just show me whos online and let me send them messages and recive messages from them, that would be great.

Don't expect anything more so far. And for me it is really enough - in any case chattign was done only additionally - primary use is for voice connections and most fo thew people expect you be able to talk, notonly to chat.

    Well, That sucks

Thats a pretty stupid plugin, If I have to have Skype running in the background, why would I need the plugin?

the whole idea is to AVOID launching skype unless I have to

wow thats the way to have developers feel appreciated

at the time there was (is?) no way to communicate with skype using their API

    As people keep asking:
NO, I WON'T be the one who writes a plugin that works without Skype running in the background. Look at the user-comments section to get an explanation why this is not possible.
