    Miranda.zip vs. MirandaPortable

Anyone else prefer miranda zipped opposed to MirandaPortable? I'm just annoyed by the splash screen. How about you?

Umm, with mirandaportable do you mean the one offered here?
It is not an official miranda release. You would have to complain to the person who runs that site.

the only official miranda releases/downloads can be found here

what is the splash screen of? You can probably disable it.

That's the one! I'm not ragging on the assembler of that package, just curious if anyone here has anything say on why to or why not to use it vs. the official zip release.

I use the zip format on a USB key (with virtual db) and it works very well...

virtDB is a database driver from y_b (thread) which keeps everything in RAM to reduce USB flash access. Db save is done when exiting Miranda, or even never if you want (so no history is saved).

I prefer the official version to any customized packs. Besides, Miranda Portable releases are often pretty delayed. For example, they still offered Miranda 0.6.8 when 0.7.3 was already out.

It's an alternative database driver, allowing Miranda to reduce the disk usage. More information can be found in the respective plugin discussion thread (see the "plugin discussion threads" sticky for a link).

And here's a thread that might be of interest too: http://forums.miranda-im.org/showthr...light=portable

EDIT: Sorry pepinlebref, I didn't see you responding :S

I think my ignorance is showing.

Tara, from the link with in the link you posted, should I understand that Miranda is not truely portable even with .ini modification?

Could you define what you mean by truly portable, please?

Are you referring to the fact that Miranda creates a registry key? It does not stop the program from working. And creating the key can be disabled.
