Make Miranda MSN look and behave like WLM..?

I find Miranda very easy to use and a comfortable substitute for Windows Live Messenger.

However, I am having some issues/questions that I don't seem to find the answers to...

1: How come that when I view my contacts, I see their nicks filled with (A), (L), (U) etc. How do I display them as emoticons instead of letters/text?

2: If someone would invite me to a webcam-chat using her/his WLM, will I see the invitation and can I accept it WITH the Miranda Webcam-plugin, or must she have Miranda too for the webcam to work..? Does this go for video conferences as well..?

3: How do I know what my 'display picture' is? And how can I have both my contacts and my own available in the chat windows?

    That'd be all for now...

Tried aMSN, but I wasn't satisfied with that as it kept shutting down when I choose a display picture... Sadness and lame stuff, that is.

    1.
Get smileyadd plugin. Then get an appropriate smiley set that you want.
I know clist_modern supports smileys on contact list, so you could get that and enable that option.

And yes I know what I said will probably not help you. Hopefully someone else can come along and give more detailed explanation/links.
I'm not in windows so cant help much more right now :(

    2. don't know

    3. yes easily possible. Check out your possible things to select in systray icon (right click on it).

2 > As far as i know Miranda has its own webcam plugin and isn't compateble with any other messengers

3 > You can also try to add yourself to the contactlist or use the plugin Mydetails.....

    ...

Seriously? Miranda's webcam plugin is not compatible with regular WLM webcam..? That's...useless then.

Also, how come that I cannot download ANY plugins from the site anymore..?

Refer to the Website down? thread please.

Some plugins are still available from their authors' sites or other places though (see the "Plugin discussion threads" and "Developers' homepages" links in my sig below). And if you cannot find a particular plugin, you may want to try this sticky: Since the Addons site is down ....

Btw - welcome to the boards :)

I don't get it.. I am still having trouble with issue 1!

1: How come that when I view my contacts/nicks, I see their nicks filled with (A), (L), (U) etc. How do I display them as emoticons instead of letters/text?

I've tried to add the smileyadd, but it doesn't seem to work... How do I get it to work then?

It would be helpful if you provided some information about your current setup. Follow these steps please:

    1. Download and install the Version Information plugin.
    2. Right click on Miranda icon in the tray and select Main Menu >> Version Information.
    3. Post the report generated by the plugin here.

For a link to the plugin please refer to the "Plugin discussion threads & download links" thread (see the sig below).

For smileys to be replaced in the CList nicks, you need to have a smiley pack that actually contains such smiley definitions. You can open the .asl/.msl file in Notepad and check if they are or not. You may also add them yourself (also add corresponding smiley pictures to the folder) once you understand the internals of the definitions file.

And AFAIK, this only works in clist_modern and the option must be enabled in the Options panel.

Crap. I've now tried all the possible MSN substitutes, but NONE seem to be working properly... It stands between 2 substitutes; Miranda and aMSN. Miranda scores way high on the resources usage and the IM itself. Very easy to use and very stable. BUT, it's lacking a couple of things... Especially the webcam-support. It's just sad that a regular WLM-user cannot accept/invite me to a webcam session unless she/he installs the Miranda webcam plugin. That's the only thing I find really down with Miranda... The rest of Miranda = top notch.

When it comes to aMSN, it's basically like WLM, but it's crashing every now and then, it's unstable and it uses A LOT of resources to run the program. Annoying that is.

borkra, thank you for that smileypack. It sure looks like WLM now, yes.

So, there's NO way that me (who use Miranda) can have a webcam session with a WLM-user WITHOUT the WLM-user needing to install the Miranda webcam plugin as well..? It's just so downhill that only the webcam part is "missing", especially sine the rest of Miranda is so awesome...
