    How exactly do I get my profile file. Plus a few other questions ...

    ok
    new forum member here

    i earlier used trillian, then pidgin, and now miranda -and this one is the BEST

    on an xp machine

    so i downloaded it, probably skipped all the steps (profile name, import, etc) and just started fresh. input my info... etc

    i have most of my 200+ contacts renamed, installed vista skin, jgmail plugin, and a couple more...

    now since i am sort of inbetween 2-3 comps in my house/other places
    i was goign 2 install it on my usb drive:
    http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/miranda_portable

    i didnt feel like renamng every1 AGAIN, so i did some research and found some .dat file that is the profile file.

    i looked everywhere, I CANT FIND IT!!! AHHHHHH

    how do i get it? i looked as suggested here: http://help.miranda-im.org/Profile

    and its not in the program files:
    C:\Program Files\Miranda IM

    so, how do i go about getting this sought after file?

    and once i put it in my miranda im (on USB) - will it automatically, add the names, chat services, etc? then i can add the plugins?

    sry - noob here thanks

    You tried like it said in the wiki link
    \Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application data\Miranda
    ??
    Also, in miranda folder, there is mirandaboot.ini which will tell you where the profile is and you can change the location if you want. (search forums for mirandaboot.ini)

    http://help.miranda-im.org/Mirandaboot.ini

    ProfileDir=. is the same as in miranda.exe directory. you can change that to the path you want (yours right now is probably to the document/settings spot)

    ProfileDir=%APPDATA%\Miranda
    is what it says

    Welcome to the boards ajskhan :)

    That's what andrewabc said - it currently points to C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application data\Miranda on your PC (assuming that you have your system installed on the C drive). If you cannot see any .dat files in that folder, in Windows Explorer select Tools >> Folder Options >> View and look for the "Hide extensions for known file types" option - if it is checkmarked, UNcheck it please and hit "OK".

    To make Miranda load the profile/database from its main folder, you need to close Miranda, edit mirandaboot.ini, and change

    ProfileDir=%APPDATA%\Miranda

    to

    ProfileDir=.

    Then save the modified file, and move your database (profile_name.dat file) from

    C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application data\Miranda

    to

    C:\Program Files\Miranda IM

    And I'd recommend using an official release instead of the portableapps version. Just copy your Miranda folder onto the USB stick and it should work fine:

    http://forums.miranda-im.org/showthr...&highlight=usb
    http://forums.miranda-im.org/showthr...&highlight=usb

    The only change that I would suggest is replacing the default database driver (dbx_3x.dll) with one that doesn't access the disk so often (just like advised in one of those threads).

    I am not sure what you mean by "just a little notification", but I think that the Tooltip notify plugin might be what you're looking for (?)

    I don't use voice chat, but here's a link you might start with:

    Thanks for the clarification :)

    Well, Tooltip notify is not that flashy ... (but I love it!). You might prefer a notifier that shows popups instead, for example:

    Contacts Status Notification
    http://addons.miranda-im.org/details...ewfile&id=1702

    NewStatusNotify
    http://addons.miranda-im.org/details...iewfile&id=207
    NewStatusNotify Unicode mod
    http://forums.miranda-im.org/showthread.php?t=5562

    Last Seen plugin mod
    http://forums.miranda-im.org/showthread.php?t=2822

    You will also need a popup service plugin (Popup plus or YAPP) for them.

    MirandaComm2 does not allow Yahoo, MSN or other official-like voice communication. It only works for MirandaComm2 <-> MirandaComm2 communications, so both chat partners should use Miranda and this plug-in, for it to work. But it does work nicely, both audio and video. Thank you, Hermes, for that! ;-)

    No.

    If you want to chat with clients using MSN or Yahoo, you will need to use the official clients.
