Few bugs and few possible bugs.. questions

Been a longtime miranda user, many years now and i've been submitting some bug reports in the past but im not 100% if these items are bugs or not so i'll post'em here first.

First, im using xp (patched up to date with nothing fancy running on the box) and currently latest release build 0.6.7 unicode .. Then to the actual issues:

Issue 1 that started few days ago.

I have a buddy that has msn live 8 as his msn client and couple of days ago he started to go N/A and come back online very rapidly - say, if i open a message box, that happened 5 times per second. And only way to get rid of that was to remove him from buddy list. I dont know if he has updated anything but i have a gut feeling its something to do with miranda's protocol plugins since im using linux/gaim combo at work and this problem doesnt really happen there.

Issue number 2 - which is definetly a "ui bug".

Had this issue happen few times in work when i was still using windows there. For what ever reason, i had accidentally set my machines day couple of months forward the real time.. had few days worth of chat logs with college's and then i realized that i had wrong day in my os. Change the date back to the right one and then all of the sudden - all conversations with people when into the bottom of the chat screen. For example, if i had few thousand rows of copypastes and chat rows in the history, the ones with highest date/time remained in the screen but the actually new messages went to the bottom of the list and if i wanted to read'em i had to scroll way way back to the bottom of the list every time user or me sent a message. I can see why this would happen - all history logs are kept in order of the assosicated timestamps not in order of receiving ..

    3rd issue.

I havent really tested 0.6.* series extensively yet but atleast till now, all filetransfers have been really really really slow. Prolly around 2kb/s even with no other network traffic going in or out and i can actually receive something like 800kb/s if traffic is coming from site that allows such a big transfer speed =) Using another client/transfer same file from same contact will result much faster speeds..

    4th issue.

I have miranda starting as i log into my profile.. That small textbox pops up to the middle of the screen stating my network status (away for example if i was away when i logged out last time) and by default it blinks for 5 seconds by default. If i hit the hide button while the 5 second countdown is ticking, quite often miranda crashes ..

5th and last issue which is also a bug.

Im using miranda in a way that its not allways at the foreground but the buddylist could sometimes be the behind the browser.

Then, i see that the buddy icon at tray is blinking - notifying that someone has come online. Even if i double click the tray icon, buddy list wont come to foreground. No matter how many times i double click it. After the blinking has stopped, then if i doubleclick the miranda icon, buddylist is raised to foreground - But in that state, its too late to see who it actually was that came online. This could also turn out to be a feature request. For example, in gaim when one of your buddies have come online, their online icon in the buddylist shows a little door and dot figure coming out - and same figure is shutting down the door and walking away when someone logs out. This icon is showing abit longer than the tray icon is blinking so that user has actually some time to very what was the event. Another way could be to show a tray balloon stating what/who information (and make it a configurable and disabled by default - or could such behaviour be done via a plugin?)

Ok, thats all. Even thou i have had some of these problems for a quite a long time, i prefer miranda. Thanks for doing a great piece of software!

    1. Could be a broken fullscreen detection on his side.
    2. Known issue, can't be fixed easily - needs a lot of work.
    5. You can use Tooltip Notify.

    3. what protocol are you talking about?
    4. it shouldn't happen. never seen such behavior, so probably it somehow connected with plugins installed. try clean install without extra plugins, just to be sure it coms from plugins and not from the core
    5. Drugwash probably meant NewStatusNotify plugin (though there are some plugins with similar functionality - NewStatusNotify, StatusChange, LastSeen).

Yeah, i thought that there would be "work around" for issue 5 but i think its still a bug if i can't raise buddylist to foreground when tray icon is animating.

Really slow download speeds have allways been via msn. I havent tried if things are slow when im uploading (i never do).

And about issue 4. I had this crash happen alot when i had some plugins installed (I only had jgmail and auto update plugins plugin) - I didnt have unicode build then i was using mostly nightly builds so i wasnt concerned about occasional crashes. Now i switched to main branch releases (0.6.7unicode) and i made a clean install - Crashing doesnt happen that often anymore (but could be due to fact that i know how to avoid it) but im sure i've had those crashes on this release to with clean install. I'll verify this over the weekend when i have a bit of time and could propably provide a some debug messages where the crash is happening.

Btw, quick question, i havent checked miranda codebase ? what dev environment people are using - does it compile with dev-cpp ?

It's not a bug, it's a feature... clicking the tray icon when it's animating discards the online notification...
You can try clist_nicer... it has some features regarding the online notification like EventArea and moving the events to the top of the list...
