Where exactly do you insert it?

I suspect you want to read smiley pack sppecification on how to add double quotes into smiley pack. It is distributed together with smileyadd plugin.

sorry for my mistake, it's the smiley part, not the insert text part.

I have read the smiley pack sppecification, the the problem is solved, many thanks!

Done - still same problem.Well, I do not know what to do here. I cannot work around that one. Something awfully wrong with your graphics subsystem. I would recommend to search for some hotfixes in this area. My DirectX ones. And check Windows Update.

Anyway big thanks for your help and your time! :)

It work much better then before (and i don't have any problem with smile selection window).
And maybe i will use "Global message log display" -> History++ option in tabsrmm to just avoid that problem.

Thank you again! :)

After i run 3D application smiles gone from tabsrmm, like before (not from select window). But smiles reappears with first animation screen. Same when scrolling - smiles that was not in visible area of tabsramm before, reappears only with first animation frame. So, if smile have "continuous" animation, it reappear near immediately, but if it have big delay between frames, it reappears only when animation begin (delay can be up to 2-3 seconds). And if i try scroll long dialog inside tabsrmm window, i can't see many smiley, if i scroll with normal screen, or i should scroll "veeeeery slooowly". I can try make two screens before and after, if my description not clear enough.Interesting question. Do you have the same problem with non-animated smiley packs.

I'd like to report two bugs with Smiley add replacing smileys in input area.
1) "Don't replace at cursor is unchecked".
When replacing a smiley like >:D< SmileyAdd will only correctly replace this smiley if I type the characters in order, i.e. '>' ':' 'D' and then '<'. If I type the smiley like this, >< then move one character to the left and type :D it will only replace the :D. If i type any character after the < then the smiley will be correctly replaced. Maybe this is the way it's supposed to be because "Don't replace at cursor is unchecked", i'm not sure :)

2)"Don't replace at cursor is checked"
The problem at number 1) doesn't happen anymore, even if I type the smiley in the following order ><, then :D it will correctly get replaced.
The problem with this option being left checked is that it messes up the order the first two characters are typed in when the smiley gets replaced. For example if you type this string "this is a test :)" (at this time the smiley is not yet replaced) then move through the input string and get to "a" and try to type something (e.g. "small") the smiley will get replaced and the string you typed will be "malls" instead.

The Last Modified date/time of a downloaded file only denotes when you downloaded it. If you download the file again, the timestamp will change again too (might not happen if you get the cached version).

What happens when i get custom smileys is my friend sends me one online.
I delete it only after shutting down miranda.

I deleted it by manually going to the miranda folder in windows explorer.
No. i tried it on and off, with no results.

No. I have everything unchecked. and tried checking and uncheck in a few combinations but to no avail.

Also i have since created a new profile to test it out. so i can confirm this is not a database issue.Ok I cannot duplicate your problem, everuything works perfectly for me exactly as it supposed to.

I am using the popup plus plugin 2.1.0.7

When its e.g. 20:38 it says:

(20:38) Nickname
is reading your away message or something like that

but the "8)" is replaced with the predefined "8)" smiley.
Any idea how I can fix this? But I don't want to disable "Replace only smileys surrounded by spaces". :-) Or do I have to contact the popup plus coder?

Anyways... I have a suggestion something I want to have but didn't find yet. ;-) Maybe you can think about it.

Following:
I am just using ICQ. I have also defined certain smileys. One of them is *jokingly*
Typing this phrase into the chat window is really annoying. But clicking the smiley button and clicking the certain smiley even too.
So I am looking for a so called smiley-bar. In this bar you have listed the most used smiley directly in your chat window toolbar. It could by ranked the most used smileys to each other with a new ranking for each (ICQ) contact.
So you also have the normal smiley menu button where the smiley list popups all smileys and you have optionally 4 or 5 most used smileys placed next to each other....
It saves a lot of time because you can instantly insert this smiley by one click.
But you don't have to implement a ranking system yet. ^^ Maybe just the possibility to preselect a few smileys in the miranda smileyadd options (or for each contact) which will be shown in the chat windows toolbar.

Hope you understand what I try to explain :D

Comments appreciated.

Detecting time is tough one, there is no reliable alogorithm to separate time from the text.

You can do it yourself today though, just reorder smileys in the smiley pack so that the most used ones are on top, this will achieve the same thing you are asking me about. In addition you can select smileys as Ctrl row+column in a smiley window.

Convince them to add API to allow that kind of stuff and I will think about it.

borkra,
can you please take a look at meta2 plugin (http://scottellis.com.au/miranda_plugins/ver_meta2.html)? (metacontacts plugin replacement)

seems the metacontacts support in smileyadd does not work with that,
is it to change on your side? (like hardcoded "MetaContacts" strings?)

hello, in 0.2.2.27 from the addons I still see the problem described by eblis.

Inserting spaces around smileys and replacing only smileys surrounded by spaces are both disabled. First I insert or write ":)" and it's replaced by a smiley as it should. If I then try to write "test" in front of it, i get "t:)est". Is the addons version the right one?

I encountered another bug in .28 probably related to the same issue...

- Type something -> "strstr"
- Set cursor in front of the text -> "|strstr"
- Add smiley -> ":)s|trstr" (cursor is always shifted by the length of smiley string - 1)

"Don't replace at cursor" will prevent this if the smiley is typed manually, so it seems to be something in replacing the string with a smiley when there's text right after it.

(This time in the right thread :D)

Something I've been thinking about regarding Custom Smilies...

TTNotify features a "contacts list" where you can choose the users notifications will be shown for.
Similary, it would be nice if SmileyAdd could have a similar "contacts list" of the MSN users (like in the MSN plug-in) and have there various options (in a similar way like in the Events >> Ignore list).

This feature will allow us to choose:
- the users we want to enable recieving Custom Smilies for,
- the users we want to disable recieving Custom Smilies for,
- the users we want to send Custom Smilies to*
- the users we don't want to send Custom Smilies to*
- more?

* preparing for the future here, of course, since it doesn't exist yet.

Whatcha think?
I think it is nice, because some users have a tendency to use all too many custom smilies and it drives me nuts (and I'm sure that not only me), while others use it in a different fashion and I don't want to miss those custom smilies. Currently I'm stuck with either disabling or enabling the feature globally and I have to toggle this every time I want to view a custom smiley someone sent me.

If there would be enough room in Events >> Ignore, I'd suggest adding it to there once the plug-in is installed, but there isn't.
This could even push for a bit of tidying up SmileyAdd's options page, which suffers from a bit of misalignment here and there. :P

Well, option to not recieve custom smileys should move to MSN from SmileyAdd, so they would not be downloaded.

Sending custom smileys is simpler, do not add them to your message they will not be sent and no need for option dialog :).

YtseJam
10 Aug 2008, 7:26 AM
Well we still don't know how the sending feature will work in Miranda.
- will it be only via the textual representation of the smiiley?*
- will there also be an interface for it?
- how do we add custom smilies?
- etc etc...

* this might be a problem, because we might use some pack of smilies that has our own version of ":)", and the other MSN user has his or hers own version of ":)". How do we choose to send the regular ":)" and a custom ":)"? I don't know how the mechanism is going to work here...

And anyways, regarding the sending of Custom Smilies, it's the same like recieving - I'd like to have option to choose who recieves what, because just like how I don't like to recieve various stuff from user X, it's the same on the flip side, some users don't like recieving from maybe specificaly me or in general or whatever. Having this option gives me larger and better flexibility.

You cannot send regular :) and custom :) in the same message, but in different messages it's ok. Current Miranda implementation of custom smiley is not quite correct, but good enough.

SmileyAdd 0.2.3.0 BETA Released
Added skipping timestamp during smiley parsing

Means this, that something like (10:08) not longer will be replaced through (10:0sunglasses-smiley ?

If yes, is this possible for smiley " :/ " as well to prevent replace it in links, which are not parsed in messages?
At the moment, it seems like this: http://... replaces with httpsmiley/...

I think, if somebody writes " (08) ", he doesn't mean " (0smiley ". So I would handle it like timestamps.

I think, if somebody writes " (08) ", he doesn't mean " (0smiley ". So I would handle it like timestamps.yes but unfortunately there are too many variations in this one for instance if somebody writes "( test 8) )" he means smiley and I can show the endless list of variations here. As result such this condition is not safely detectable. It's a case of poorly chosen smiley code unfortunately.

Hello. Can u help me please? I have a problem with animated gif's (ico's works fine). A lot of crashlogs like one that below. I've tried different versions of plugin and smile-packs. However other Miranda Pack (core 0.8.0.8) works correctly. So it seems the reason can be in other plugs or settings, but i haven't idea which exactly =\

Since 0.2.3.1 this addon (http://addons.miranda-im.org/details.php?action=viewfile&id=3706) doesn't work anymore. I use the method to replace the string with the icon from xstatus icon pack. But the icon isn't shown anymore. With version 0.2.3.0 everything is fine.

Miranda Crash Report from 2008-08-15 02:04:47+0300. Crash Dumper v.0.0.0.9
Yes, please install latest Crash Dumper plugin and the crashes will go away.

These crashes are somewhat artificial, they are not really there :). Crash Dumper just captures preculiarities of GDI+ design, it's designed to have crashes that are trapped internally to GDI+, but this version of Crash Dumper exposes them.

Latest Crash Dumper 0.0.4.2 could be downloaded here:

Some problems with 3d smiles packs, it's not animated into jabber chats and into a typing window, in last beta builds. I use last tabsrmm with the integrated chat.

3d smile packs can be downloaded here (http://miranda-planet.com/files/root/Anim3DSmiley.rar)

Well, one problem is: your frame number to display is set to negative numbers for some strange reason. It cannot be negative :).

Smiley = "078.gif" , -100, ":-) :)"
Smiley = "122.gif" , -101, ":-( :("
Smiley = "089.gif" , -102, ";-) ;)"
Smiley = "207.gif" , -103, ":-P :-p :P :p"
Smiley = "098.gif" , -104, ":-D :-d :D :d"

I will add validation logic for it, but you need to correct your smiley pack.

Somehow the plugin seems to hang for some time while trying to download images from web-based smiley packs :|
Is it possible to avoid that?

Is it possible to avoid that? It's not hanging :). It's downloading images one by one. And that could take very long time few min maybe. One day I will put better UI for that.

borkra, is that your idea of "one day" ?
Goddammit, if all developers were that devilishly fast
:)Well, I started to think about it and relealized that changes I made to image handling in 0.2.3.x releases of SmileyAdd eliminated the reason for not being able to do it in the background, so I added code for that :).

And why did you provide half of the Crash Dumper report? Please provide the whole thing, especialy the most important stuff as OS version and other system information.

BTW there seems to be little mistake in documentation

http://code.google.com/p/mirandaimplugins/source/browse/trunk/smileyadd/docs/smileyadd_msl_specification.txt

4) Smileys as text (this is pseudo smiley, just text replacement occurs)

Smiley = "", 0, "smiley1 smiley2 ...", "replacement text"
Smiley = "", 0, R"smiley regular expression", "insert text", "replacement text"
What's the purpose of "insert text" parameter in regular expression text replacement smiley?

What's the purpose of "insert text" parameter in regular expression text replacement smiley? It's a text-only "smiley" it replaces text with text :). I wanted to preserve the format of the string so I left it in.

Hi there, the other day a friend sent me a message, part of which was replaced by a custom smiley of his; I asked him something about the smiley, but he told me he couldn't see anything since he'd stopped using that custom image for months.
He's using WLM, so I guess he can add and later remove a custom smiley; if my guess' right, would be easy to implement the option in SmileyAdd?
Cheers

When I click the smileybutton and the selector window appears, it is first drawn white before it is filled with the selected background color and the smileys. The white background is only visible for a very short moment, but when the regular background color is dark, you will notice it as a flickering effect.

Hey borkra,
using Miranda 0.7.8 or newest dev build, scriver (this won't occur with srmm) and newest smileyaddw, open 2 message sessions, in one of them click the smiley button to open the selector, leave it open and click with mouse into the other message session to bring it to focus - result is focus flickering rapidly between the two windows. After closing one of the windows with task manager, Miranda will crash silently sooner or later...

The pack I use:
http://pirlouy42.free.fr/Miranda/WLM_smileys.7zIt depends on images, some images are transparent some not. If you want to make images transparent you need to do that using some image editor. SmileyAdd will draw transparent images transparently and non transparent images with no transparency.

I use latest nightly build, and I have not added a plugin for years.Well, SmileyAdd is now using advimg to draw png files and does not support type of transparency your images are using. Actually a lot of image viewers I tried do not treat them as transparent either. You might want to convert them in a more usual format. That will shrink size of them by 50% too.

Just for fun, I had a look at those pictures too. Used Imagine (http://www.nyam.pe.kr/) by Chun Sejin and they are all treated as transparent, however they differ in resolution: some are 8bpp, some 24bpp and some 32bpp (refering to PNGs).

I believe there may be a problem with decoding the Alpha Channel for certain format, in advaimg.

Well, you believe incorrectly.

These particular images do not have Alpha channel. They just declare one of the RGB colors in the image as transparent. This particular method of transparency is rarely used in PNG files and FreeImage library that is a core of advimage does not support it. PNG format support 3 methods of transparency: Alpha channel, entry in the palette (similar to gif), and RGB color of choice.

Dragwash I actually found the problem before posting the reply.

And Imagine library does not provide correct information about the image. Images with bpp more than 32 it does not identify correctly. And all images from this pack have bpp of 48 and 64.

19 Sep 2008, 3:42 PM
Ah, that's news to me - didn't know there could be more than 32bpp in pictures! I suppose Imagine (and many others, probably) would have to be updated then, to correctly support this type of pictures.

Thank you for the information. It would be interesting to know which application created/converted those images to such format. Pierre-Louis?

Imagine does display them correctly but does not identify them properly (when you click (I) button). These images have 16 bit per channel, versa what you used to is 8-bit per channel.

And bpp is not the source of the problem FreeImage not supporting one of the transparency methods is.

19 Sep 2008, 5:29 PM
Ah so it's all up to FreeImage to fix the issue. Hopefully they'll do that soon (I suppose we shouldn't mess with original FreeImage sources...)

I've referred the author of Imagine to this thread for details. Pierre-Louis, please keep that smiley pack online for a while, should he need it for testing. Thank you.

@Drugwash: ok. Maybe in a months I'll change link with new images. You need to save as 32 bit not 8 bit. :). I asked to create 8 bit per channel not 8 bit images. With 4 channels RGBA Red-Green-Blue-Alpha 4*8 = 32 bpp.

8 bit format is palletized format it will be huge and slow and low quality. You need to take original images and save them as 32 bpp format.

Original images save with Paint.Net in 32 bits, 32 bits, 633 bytes: http://pirlouy42.free.fr/Miranda/Smileys/glass-cool_32_bits.png
Original images save with Paint.Net in 32 bits AND compressed by PNGOptimizer, 8bits, 414 bytes: Image (http://pirlouy42.free.fr/Miranda/Smileys/glass-cool_32_bits_optimized.png) (sorry, img limitation)

I found a little bug: When using AutoReplacer (¤ AutoReplacer.dll v.0.0.1.7 [03 May 2008] - AutoReplacer) and enabling the option to display smileys in the input area instead of the smiley-code, the following problem occurs:

Assuming I have a autoreplace-entry to replace "thx" with "thanks", and now, I begin typing:

"Yeah that's nice ;)"

";)" get's replaced with the smiley-icon, now I continue the sentence to:

"Yeah that's nice [smiley_icon], thx"

When now doing a space, the "thx" get's replaced by "thanks" and the smiley-icon disappears. There's also no smiely-code anymore but a additional space...

Could you please fix it?

Are you sure it's SmileyAdd that does it? My Miranda goes up under 1 MB (from ~26 to ~27 MB private memory) when opening a conversation. (Animated MSN smileypack)Whenever you open chat window, visible smiley images are loaded into memory. So the memory usage will grow, how much depends on the image sizes. And yes animated images are much larger then non animated, so they will use more memory. And the first time you open chat window GDI+ will be loaded too for gif (if it is not loaded already) and this will take even more memory. Smiley images will get unloaded after 3 min of invisibility or after you close chat window. But the memory will get released only after you minimize Miranda (hit minimize button), this is the way Windows work.

Reonekot

Right I understand that. I guess I didn't understand what canuckkat wrote. Thought he wrote memory usage went up with ~35 MB, which is ~35 times as much as I see. Reading his post again he writes 35k, which I assumed was MB...

Edit: In my case I would have thought memory usage would be higher, since it loads quite a lot of animated images.

I can see most of the animated custom smileys, but some of them I see just in thier normal font, or nothing.
the custom smileys which are not animated, i can't see at all.
May the problem be about the "custom smileys" folder in MSN?

I have a problem with custom smileys in MSN and i guess it's because the Smileyadd plugin.
I can see most of the animated custom smileys, but some of them I see just in thier normal font, or nothing.
the custom smileys which are not animated, i can't see at all.
May the problem be about the "custom smileys" folder in MSN?
please help me.

VIYou are using IEView. The problem actually with IEView plugin it does not like certain folder names. You need to ask IEView developer for the fix.

Would you please specify what names you mean? Those with a space in them? Those that include the word "smileys"? Or "custom"? :S

I see. I must have missed it I guess. Thanks anyway.I do not think html supports unicode path. So all smiley directories should have English path maybe even spaced is the problem.

The other source of the problem could be the template. Even is IEView works perfectly template could brake it.

my problem is only with non-animated smileys in the ieview template. I see all kind of smileys in history, which proves that the problem should be in the ieview plugin. M I right?

There is a issue with smiley cateories: Smilies in contactlist are replaced with protocol-specific instead with "smilies in contactlist".

And the old topic again: the smiley " :/ " in paths like C:/Users/...
Could you change this?

Thanks

Do you have option in contact list selected to use contact list smileys?

The option "Contactlist/Row items/Text/Use protocol smileys" was active. Now it works ;-)

This is not a path path is written c:\abc\asdf

Well, both can use... (at least in vista)

I have a little problem with SmileyAdd

with a 19'' Monitor and the resloution 1280*1024 are the smileys without scrolling, limited to 260. With 26 rows and 10 columns ... not logical, I think it would be better to have about 20 Columns, because normally Monitors are not as high as broad.

And why is it limited to 260?

regards, Evertonian

It's limited to the fraction of the screen, unless smiley pack has limit specified.

I know that, because with my 17'' Monitor, not 260 smileys were possible, but is it possible to break the limitation?

I know that, because with my 17'' Monitor, not 260 smileys were possible, but is it possible to break the limitation?I am not going to change current default logic because as always a lot of users depend on it.

But as I mentioned before you can specify selection window size in the smiley pack explicitly, then you can choose whatever size you like.

Maybe it's a stupid question, but my contacts at msn can't see my custom emoticons, only I see them, like it was in some protocol that don't support custom emoticons. What's wrong? I need some extra plugin, or there's something wrong with my configuration?

Does somebody work on this ?
Because I've been very happy when I've been able to receive custom emoticons, but now I am hard to please. I want to send custom emoticons. http://smileys.sur-la-toile.com/repository/Content/yaisse2.gif

More seriously, I suppose you don't want to do this part. Can you cheer someone on doing this please ?

More seriously, I suppose you don't want to do this part. Can you cheer someone on doing this please ?No it's just a lot of work. And a lot of changes to make it happen. And it will in the due time. Although to do that I would have to completely change a lot of things, in MSN and SmileyAdd and amount of work in MSN is huge much larger then in SmileyAdd. So in a few months maybe it will happen.

Hi All!

Just have tried to update from 0.2.3.5 to 0.2.3.6. The SmileyAddW plugin does not load properly:

Error 14001 - This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

I've tried to delete the key using DataBase Editor but it does not help.

Any recommendations?

It is interetsting - who is developer of this (http://miranda-easy.net/archive/SmileyAdd/smileyadd_14-10-2008_14-36.zip)?
Found from Miranda-Vi.Org. Version - 0.2.3.6. Authors: Peacow, nightwish, bid, borkra.

I should note this version works OK.

I should note this version works OK.Somebody compiled my unreleased code from sources for a future version of the plugin and posted it. I do not support them in any way and asking everybody not to use it. Whenever I will make a release, it will be supported. And I do not have time to deal with yours or anybody elses problem reports on unreleased version either. And I do not really care if whatever I have in SVN works or not.

And I never distribute any code from miranda-easy.net

I asked to remove this thing from miranda-vi.org is it back there again?

Hi!

I have a problem with the SmileyAdd and Autocorrect plugins (latest versions).

The situation is as follows:
First, I type a smiley, then I begin writing the first word, and as soon as I finish writing it and hit space, the smiley disappears.

Here is my version info: http://pastebin.com/f3bd1603
